The company Andreu Manteniment Industrial SL from Valls collaborates in the financing of the project: "Improving access to drinking water and sanitation in 24 localities in Sokandé (Togo)".

Sokodé is located in the central region of Togo, a small West African country that ranks 162 out of 191 on the 2022 Human Development Index.

The population is mostly engaged in agriculture, but in general the harvests are not abundant, due to the low fertility of the soil, which is very eroded and stony. In recent times, many families of different ethnicities have settled in this area, and the population of these new settlements far exceeds the native population.

One of the main problems they face is access to water. Sometimes women have to travel long distances to access a drinking water point. This extremely laborious task takes time away from them to devote themselves to the family and perform productive activities, which is a serious problem, since the household economy is the responsibility of the woman.

The difficulty in sustainable access to drinking water and in the health infrastructures, it causes poor hygiene and sanitation conditions in the population. The impact of this problem is reflected in the proliferation of water-borne and parasitic diseases such as malaria (first cause of morbidity recorded in health records), diarrhea and typhoid fever... The consequences of this situation are multiple : the non-satisfaction of primary needs, the low schooling of children and, above all, of girls, the rural exodus, personal insecurity, etc.. There is also an environmental impact, as the lack of water for other economic activities causes the population to put unbridled pressure on natural resources through deforestation to produce charcoal, fuelwood and wood.

The project aims to improve living conditions on the basis of two components: to facilitate beneficiaries' access to drinking water, on the one hand, and to modify behaviors favorable to hygiene and sanitation in the project area, on the other the other
